OSG UK Ltd

OSG’s core business is in the marketing, sales and distribution of cutting tools to engineering distributors and OEMs across the UK. OSG offers an extensive line of High Technology cutting tools designed for use in today's most aggressive conditions in areas such as Aviation and Formula 1 racing.

The Project

OSG were updating the web hosting systems at their UK headquarters and wanted to improve the reliability of the associated Internet connections and to increase bandwidth to cope with additional traffic. In conjunction with this, Video Conferencing was required in order to improve communications with their global offices and reduce travelling time for monthly sales meetings.

LCC installed an Ethernet First Mile (EFM) leased line with a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and a 99.9% guaranteed up time to replace an unreliable SDSL circuit. An uncontended 2Mbp/s EFM was presented across seven copper pairs with the bandwidth aggregated across all pairs, providing a resilient solution.

We installed a fully managed Polycom Conference solution for the UK and Belgium offices, with the UK using the new EFM bandwidth and Belgium using their existing leased line bandwidth. Software based applications on the sales staff laptops allows them to join and view sales conferences from remote locations. 

SIP Trunks were introduced at the same time to complement the existing ISDN2e lines for extra resiliency, increased line capacity and reduced International call charges.

We approached LCC with the general scenario of what we wanted to achieve in terms of connectivity and resilience, they recommended Ethernet First Mile for data and SIP trunking for voice as methods for attaining faster and more importantly, very resilient services for our company. The idea of using SIP trunks means short of total catastrophe we should never again have a quiet day in the office as the risk is spread across two separate services. The Video Conference Solution has provided the infrastructure for our European sales team to meet without the need to travel. As a long standing customer of LCC we continue to be very happy with their professional but very personable approach to business.
